This was my first step into spinning fibres - I was heavily encouraged by a friend to give it a shot, so I bought a beginners spinning kit from froggyfibers.etsy.com and started practicising with the drop spindle. My first spun singles would have been too thick when plied together, so I plied with a strand of crochet cotton (the white is the cotton). The kit included pamphlets showing how to spin using the drop spindle, and also links for websites giving other demonstrations, including The Joy of Handspinning site.

I then tried out the moebius scarf pattern from Planet Shoup . I'm not one for following patterns, so I tried this one out for about 10 rows to see how the technique worked, and repeated the first 10 rows to be sure I was getting it right, then started over, using a basketweave pattern and knitted until I ran out of yarn.
